Title: Extreme Ownership Pdf How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win

In this updated edition of the blockbuster best-selling leadership book that took America and the world by storm, two US Navy SEAL officers who led the most highly decorated special operations unit of the Iraq War demonstrate how to apply powerful leadership principles from the battlefield to business and life.

Combat, the most intense and dynamic environment imaginable, teaches the toughest leadership lessons, with absolutely everything at stake. Jocko Willink and Leif Babin learned this reality first-hand on the most violent and dangerous battlefield in Iraq. As leaders of SEAL Team Three's Task Unit Bruiser, their mission was one many thought impossible: help US forces secure Ramadi, a violent, insurgent-held city deemed "all but lost." In gripping, firsthand accounts of heroism, tragic loss, and hard-won victories, they learned that leadership - at every level - is the most important factor in whether a team succeeds or fails.

Willink and Babin returned home from deployment and instituted SEAL leadership training to pass on their harsh lessons learned in combat to help forge the next generation of SEAL leaders. After leaving the SEAL Teams, they launched a company, Echelon Front, to teach those same leadership principles to leaders in businesses, companies, and organizations across the civilian sector. Since that time, they have trained countless leaders and worked with hundreds of companies in virtually every industry across the US and internationally, teaching them how to develop their own high-performance teams and most effectively lead those teams to dominate their battlefields.

Since its release in October 2015, Extreme Ownership has revolutionized leadership development and set a new standard for literature on the subject. Required reading for many of the most successful organizations, it has become an integral part of the official leadership training programs for scores of business teams, military units, and first responders. Detailing the mindset and principles that enable SEAL units to accomplish the most difficult combat missions, Extreme Ownership demonstrates how to apply them to any team or organization, in any leadership environment. A compelling narrative with powerful instruction and direct application, Extreme Ownership challenges leaders everywhere to fulfill their ultimate purpose: lead and win.

Surprise, I didn't love it. It seems I'm in the minority here but I didn't love this book. I love leadership and I love discipline and I was hoping to hear some unique thoughts about these subjects. I hadn't heard an interview from the author and was very excited about this book.I simply didn't find any of the principles on leadership or discipline to be anything more than common knowledge. If you read books on leadership before or on discipline or military books, there doesn't seem to be anything unique here, in my opinion. If you love War Stories especially in a modern context, this is an excellent book. It's well-written and fun to read. I just didn't particularly find it helpful. For leadership technique or principles of self discipline, I would not recommend this book. For stories of overcoming challenges in Modern Combat and conflict, I would recommend this book. But ultimately, given my expectations, I was pretty disappointed. I'm also disappointed at the great reviews it's got because I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here!* Edit: I went back and read some of the lower reviews and I concur with all of them. I'm glad at least a few people noticed that this book was heavy on bragging and light on principles. The 90% five star reviews are only right if you love War Stories and don't really care about leadership or self discipline.Insightful, but also very restrained. Extreme Ownership is written by two former Navy SEALs, Jocko Willink and Leif Babin, who now head a leadership training company. Both men are pretty hardcore, I must admit. The experiences they share in this book are intense and eye-opening--not to mention unique. There aren't many books out there that give such detailed glimpses into the lives of SEALs in action. The book is structured in a very basic and clear way. The authors convey one main point per chapter by sharing a story from their battlefield experiences, then highlighting the main principle of that story, and finally giving a concrete example of how this principle applies in business settings.Their main points can be summarized as follows:(*) The leader is always responsible. (This is what they call "extreme ownership." Basically, leaders must always "own" the mistakes and shortcomings of their teams.)(*) Everyone on the team must believe in the mission.(*) Work with other teams to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.(*) Keep plans simple, clear, and concise.(*) Check your ego.(*) Figure out your priorities, and then act on them one at a time.(*) Clarify your mission (i.e., your plan).(*) Engage with your higher-ups; keep them in the loop--especially when they frustrate you.(*) Act decisively, even when things are chaotic.(*) And the last chapter is a summary of the seemingly contradictory qualities of a leader. In my opinion, the simplicity, clarity, and structure of this book are it's greatest strengths. I knew exactly where the authors were going with their points, and I understood exactly the message they were trying to communicate. The book is incredibly easy to follow.I do have two minor complaints. First, the book is really repetitive at parts. There are several moments when the authors share a complete story or personal thought--and then share the story again, but this time in the context of telling it to either their SEAL teams or to a group of business executives. It became a little tedious. If I hear the story once, I don't need another play-by-play, no matter how interesting it was the first time around.Second, while this book is very descriptive--especially with the battle scenes--it is also incredibly restrained, almost cold. There is basically no emotion in this book--which feels weird, because even though it's a book about leadership, it's also a book about war, too. If you are going to aim to teach me something through your intense and sometimes tragic experiences, well then let's get into it. I'm not looking for manufactured drama, but you don't have to scrub it all clean for me, either. Ultimately, I ended up feeling like the authors didn't trust me enough with the whole story. And I wanted more than that.Still, I appreciated what Willink and Babin had to share. Their lessons are insightful and thought-provoking, and I can definitely see how their experiences will help guide leaders in the business world. Extreme Ownership is a worthwhile read, yes--but also a somewhat muted one. Take it for what it is.Don't judge this book by its cover. It has far more to offer than you may think. If you were to judge a book by its cover, you would think that "Extreme Ownership: How US Navy SEALs Lead And Win" is a book which would only be applicable to military veterans and historians. You would be wrong. This isn't a self-help book from some "gurus", nor does it provide an ideology or set of steps for how to approach specific problems. Extreme Ownership is a mindset which applies to everything you do. Authors Jocko Willink and Leif Babin have crafted a guidebook for success in all ventures of life. They explain hard-learned principles of leadership, which they experienced first-hand as US Navy SEALs, specifically in and around their 2006 deployment to Ramadi, Iraq, one of the most dangerous places and times in the war. These principles can be applied to any relationships or walks of life; they are simple enough for anyone to understand, and broad enough to use in any situation. The book is separated into 12 chapters, each which highlights a principle of leadership. Each chapter is then broken into 3 seconds. The first section is an anecdote providing an example of how US Navy SEALs use their military experience to demonstrate each principle. The second section is how & why the principle works. The third section is an example of how that principle transforms from the battlefield, into world of businesses of all types & sizes, as experienced by the authors and their customers. It is very easy to read and understand, despite the regular use of military jargon (which is either footnoted or explained so even non-military readers can comprehend).Military recruits & officers, parents, corporate executives, students, low-level management, spouses, shop foremen, independent contractors, and sole proprietors will all benefit from the lessons of Extreme Ownership. If you feel you're stuck in a rut, lacking self-discipline, or perhaps know someone who simply needs to improve their lot, this book is an excellent starting point.I have personally read & completed this book, but I will never be done with the concept of "Extreme Ownership". Being able to take ownership and be accountable for the things around me has truly changed my life for the better.

Pokemon Fan Mom I don't get Pokemon. I don't understand it. I don't intend to act like I do.However I love a little boy who loves Pokemon. Not only does he love Pokemon he loves to share this with EVERYONE he can. This book is a life saver. Not only does it keep him entertained for hours it's set up in a way that makes it easy enough for us non-experts to keep up. He has gushed over this book time and time again to daddy, mommy, big sister, and he even loves to sit and show it to baby brother!Added bonus if your 5 year old is fighting doing anything with his alphabet he will gladly hunt for any letter you ask if it means you will read about that Pokemon. My 8-year-old son is THRILLED with it! My son became obsessed with all things Pokemon late last year. He quickly built up a collection of 600+ Pokemon cards. One of the kids I was in a play with backin December had this book, so I knew I needed to get it for my son. Finally ordered it a week or so ago and my son is THRILLED with it. He takes it everywhere we go to show to everyone and has been reading it a lot. It's a great way for him to learn about the Pokemon characters he's collected - especially since we just joined a local Pokemon club where they learn how to play the trading card game. Highly recommend! I love that it also tells you how to pronounce the Pokemon names. And the artwork is fantastic.Fantastic guide that my 7 year old cannot stop reading... if only it had Zeraora! My 7 year old son is really into Pokemon now. He does not have any of the videogames (I am afraid he would get addicted), but he has toys, mega construx, trading cards and now this guide. I thought this was going to be that kind of book that he would read a couple of times and then throw in the corner, but I was wrong! He simply cannot stop reading it. He brings it in the school bus every day, and reads it in the way to and from school. After he gest home, he keeps reading. By now, he knows so many pokemon that I can no longer keep track! The guide is fairly up to date, and includes Sun and Moon (Alola) pokemon such as Lunala or Lycanroc. This makes the book really thick, as the 800+ pokemon take almost 500 pages! Each of them has a very good level of detail, including their region, evolutions, size/weight and some interesting facts. We could not be happier with this guide... or maybe we could, if it included Zeraora! (This mythical pokemon was introduced on April 2018, probably after the guide was printed, and it is the only missing one we have found).Overall, a extremely recommended guide for all the pokemon-lover kids out there!

Title: Lying Next to Me Pdf

No matter what you see, no matter what you’ve heard, assume nothing.

Adam and Sophie Warner and their three-year-old daughter are vacationing in Washington State’s Hood Canal for Memorial Day weekend. It’s the perfect getaway to unplug—and to calm an uneasy marriage. But on Adam’s first day out on the water, he sees Sophie abducted by a stranger. A hundred yards from shore, Adam can’t save her. And Sophie disappears.

In a nearby cabin is another couple, Kristen and Connor Moss. Unfortunately, beyond what they’ve heard in the news, they’re in the dark when it comes to Sophie’s disappearance. For Adam, at least there’s comfort in knowing that Mason County detective Lee Husemann is an old friend of his. She’ll do everything she can to help. She must.

But as Adam’s paranoia about his missing wife escalates, Lee puts together the pieces of a puzzle. The lives of the two couples are converging in unpredictable ways, and the picture is unsettling. Lee suspects that not everyone is telling the truth about what they know—or they have yet to reveal all the lies they’ve hidden from the strangers they married.

Riveting! I dislike writing reviews on books... but this book was fantastic.. I was all over the place with who I suspected was the killer. I had a hard time putting it down. Very well written, great characters and I loved the setting! Going to look for more books by this author! If you love mysteries... You will love Lying Next To Me.I was completely immersed from page one. The action started up immediately and had me hooked till the end. I especially enjoy the local aspect. I’m a Washington girl and it tickles me to be able to relate to the scenes in his books. The author is amazing at setting a scene. No detail is skipped over. I can smell the salt air; hear the oars hitting the water as Adam frantically tries to reach Sophie. I can hear the glass breaking and the gravel under the abductors shoes as he grabs Adams wife and disappears behind the cabin.Gregg has a way of writing characters that you fall in love with, or hate immediately.Excellent plot. inticing characters. And there’s always that unexpected twist. Damn that twist. In conclusion, I enjoyed this book very much and am looking forward to “If You Tell...” which comes out in November.Twists and turns. Gregg Olsen has done it again! Somehow he weaves together a storyline with characters that seem like the people next-door. But so not! Definitely a page turner and a great summer read.

Title: Perfume Pdf The Story of a Murderer
Author: Patrick Süskind
Published Date: 2001
Page: 255

?A fable of criminal genius?. Remarkable."?The New York Times Text: English (translation) Original Language: German

An acclaimed bestseller and international sensation, Patrick Suskind’s classic novel provokes a terrifying examination of what happens when one man’s indulgence in his greatest passion—his sense of smell—leads to murder.

In the slums of eighteenth-century France, the infant Jean-Baptiste Grenouille is born with one sublime gift—an absolute sense of smell. As a boy, he lives to decipher the odors of Paris, and apprentices himself to a prominent perfumer who teaches him the ancient art of mixing precious oils and herbs. But Grenouille’s genius is such that he is not satisfied to stop there, and he becomes obsessed with capturing the smells of objects such as brass doorknobs and fresh-cut wood. Then one day he catches a hint of a scent that will drive him on an ever-more-terrifying quest to create the “ultimate perfume”—the scent of a beautiful young virgin. Told with dazzling narrative brilliance, Perfume is a hauntingly powerful tale of murder and sensual depravity.

Translated from the German by John E. Woods.

A beautiful, dark tale Perfume is a wonderfully written, magical tale full that is sometimes funny, other times scary and often just plain weird. Peer into the incredible, horrible life (and mind) of Grenouille, a man who, from birth, revolts the senses of anyone in his presence. Peer over his shoulder as he goes on a fantastic, perverse quest of self-discovery. At times you may pity him; at times you may loathe him - but it’s doubtful that one would ever forget him. This is one hell of a great read, and it was also made into one of my favorite films. Enjoy!Definitely on my top 10 of best books ever read in my life Definitely on my top 10 of best books ever read in my life. Although it is a translation from the original (I believe it was written in German originally) it is still a masterpiece in the use of the English language. A must read for every single person in the world, if only to relish the use of wonderfully descriptive narrative which is so sadly lacking in the modern world ! As all good books, one is transported into another world each time you pick it up.Kurt Cobain led me here Heard about this book in an interview with Kurt Cobain, who said that this book was the inspiration for the song "Scentless Apprentice". Being a Nirvana fan, I had to give it a shot. I can honestly say that this, despite it being a bit confusing at times, is one of my favorite stories I have ever read. Definitely one to read several times, as I'm convinced that more/deeper meaning would be revealed each and every time.If you're thinking of getting it, DO.

The Giver Download

ISBN: B0000YSH4W
Title: The Giver Pdf

The Giver, the 1994 Newbery Medal winner, has become one of the most influential novels of our time. The haunting story centers on twelve-year-old Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. Lois Lowry has written three companion novels to The Giver, including Gathering Blue, Messenger, and Son.

A ridiculously dystopian teen novel that gives “Brave New World” a run for its money. I read this along with my ten-year-old when it was assigned in school.Jonas lives in a dystopia disguised as a utopia where everyone is cared for and all has a place. Everything is controlled, from the weather, to the number of births in each community. Every family unit is assigned two children and all jobs are assigned by the committee of elders based on an individual’s strengths and interests. There is no want, no lack or homeless. Crime is all but extinct (as are many animals) and the elder residents are pampered and taken care of until the day of their Release to Elsewhere. The children undergo a strict form of training where emphasis is on manners, precise language and obedience. When Jonas turns twelve he is selected as the new Receiver of Memory. As the Receiver in Training , Jonas’ training consists of taking on all the community’s memories from the outgoing Receiver. Once his training begins, Jonas becomes privy to situations, places, sensations and feelings that has him quickly understanding that nothing is as it seems in his idyllic community. The world he lives in vastly differs from the memories of the Giver, and in some instances, is a flat out lie. As he gains knowledge of concepts such as family holidays, seasons, conflict and even color; Jonas realizes that the Sameness of his community is not ideal; it’s cruel brainwashing When faced with this truth, Jonas realizes that he also now has something that the rest of the community doesn't .... a choice. As far as novels that you must read because you are in school and it’s assigned goes, this is probably one of the better ones. I remember when I was in school all the books we had to read were completely boring it truly is a wonder I love reading after the dreck I was exposed to!Jonas world is bleak and boring. Nobody sees color, everyone is taught to be painfully polite as they go about their lives volunteering at various places, discussing their dreams and feelings all the while being totally naïve to the things that they are missing. At least in the Hunger Games, the folks in District Twelve knew they had it bad… the people in Jonas’ community are like the proverbial frogs in the boiling pot. The Giver has provided quite a few topics of discussion for my son and I as I am sure it has provided for his class and I am sure it will continue to provide in the future. While the Giver is identified as Teen & Young Adult, do not, for one minute believe it is written on an elementary level. The topics that are addressed, either in passing or in greater depth are compelling and thought provoking. Even after I finished this book, I find myself thinking about a person, situation or comment and still being affected. The cliffhanger ending will leave the reader with a mixed feeling of relief and curiosity. As part of a quartet of books by Lois Lowry, I am looking forward to reading more books in this series for more glimpses into dystopia through Lois Lowry’s eyes.Spectacular Book for All Ages Yesterday, I took a road trip with my two daughters to get pick up my 88 year-old grandmother, who will be staying with us through the holiday season. At 5 and 9 years-old, my usual audiobook choices were clearly not an option. So, I found myself listening to some books that definitely are not my usual type, yet again. With over 4 1/2 hours in the car each way, we were able to finish 2 audiobooks from start to finish. By pure coincidence, they both ended up being authored by Lois Lowry. I have never been more engaged in a children's book than I was during this road trip. I was completely lost in these stories, as were my children. The first book that we listened to was 'The Giver'. What a captivating, albeit bleak, fictional world Ms. Lowry has created! I was absolutely spellbound by her storytelling.Set in the future, Jonas lives in a community that has traded their humanity for the illusion of safety. They block anything that would trigger the emotional highs and lows that define a person's life as we now know it. They don't experience the heartache of loss, but they never give in to the joys of life either. They are shells, robotic in their day to day existence and devoid of emotion.Although this is a children's book, it had a feeling eerily similar to George Orwell's '1984'. Independent thinking was non-existent. People "confessed" their thoughts, dreams and rule violations. The presence of the omnipresent leaders in their homes, ruling their lives, was pervasive and all-powerful.Jonas is getting ready to experience the ceremony of 12. This particular ceremony is an important one in the community, a rite of passage into adulthood. It is at this ceremony that each child is assigned their job within the community. They will remain in their assigned role until they are no longer productive and they are "released".Unlike the other children, Jonas is unsure of his calling within the community. He doesn't feel a clear draw to one occupation or another. He is worried of what the future holds for him and he is beginning to notice some unusual things that others do not.Jonas is ultimately assigned a very prestigious role within the community. It is perhaps the most important role in the community, but comes with a tremendous burden. He cannot share his experiences with anyone other than the man that he will be replacing, the current "receiver". As his training progresses, Jonas comes to question everything that he has ever been taught. From beginning to end, this book held my rapt attention. It was beautifully written and thought provoking. 'The Giver' serves as a cautionary tale to the human race, warning of what can become when we censor our very emotions and blot out all of the differences that make us unique individuals. There was plenty of action and suspense along the way. It was also a much more emotional read than I had anticipated. I'll never forget the look on my 9 year-old's face when some of the true meanings of different phrases, like "released", truly sunk in. Don't even get me going on baby Gabe! Luckily, I think most of that went over the head of my 5 year-old.Overall, I thought that this was a spectacular book! It is one that I would not have normally read, but I'm so glad that I did. I can only hope that the lessons learned will resonate with my daughter and the other children that read it. An all-around great story! I'll probably download the next books in the series for our next road-trip to take "Nana" home after the holidays.
